Cascades on 52
Cascades on 52 description:Cascades on 52 is a spectacular lodge overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in Cape Town’s most exclusive neighborhood of Bantry Bay.
The lodge sits perched on the slopes of Signal Hill tucked in right under the massive outcrop of Lion’s Head.
Lion’s Head is probably the most important factor contributing to the exclusive character of Bantry Bay.
The gigantic rock structure casts a protective shield over the entire bay and provides complete shelter from the infamous South Easter winds that often ravage through the Cape during summer.
Because of this, Bantry Bay and a slice of neighboring Clifton are the only wind free areas in Cape Town.
This blessing from nature, combined with the extraordinary setting on the steep sloping hillside, allowing for the most spectacular views over the Ocean, has been the cornerstone for the success of the neighborhood.
The Lodge: A masterpiece of contemporary design, build in 2003, the lodge comprises of seven guest suites over five floors.
The brief to the architect was to create a building that should capture as much light as possible, work with high ceilings, double volumes and over-sized windows.
That is exactly what a visitor encounters when he steps through the front door.
He feels overwhelmed with the feeling of space and light.
The main reception area is a double storey volume leading to the large open guest lounge.
At this point, it is probably happening with the first time visitor, an invisible hand towards the large floor will irresistibly draw him to ceiling and wall-to-wall windows leading to the terrace where he will stand still, in awe with the most spectacular view over the Atlantic Ocean.
Uninterrupted, a 180-degree vista from the top of the world, literally, down into the bay.
This is not an intimate feeling; this is pure extrovert pleasure that will take possession of even the extremely well-traveled visitor.
Oversized umbrella’s and a row of comfortable, modern Royal Botania sun loungers invite for immediate relaxation.
One does not want to go back inside, it is too much too grand the view and the feeling of space demands time to soak it up, time for a nice drink now, we’ll check out the rooms a bit later.
The rooms are different in size but equal in their furnishings and equipment.
We used a slightly off-white paint on the walls, cherry wood for the doors, floating shelves and cupboards in combination with black floor covering.
The result is a well-balanced, modern room that does not feel cold and empty but instead is easy on the senses and invites for unwinding and being on holiday.
Again, here, in the guest rooms, floor to ceiling windows and sea view galore.
Soft see-through curtains temper the harsh sunlight, and the use of soft padded leather on the headboards and bed bases give the rooms a cozy feeling very different from the so often clinical feel of a very modern building.
Two of the rooms have sea view but no outside balcony.
Those are the Standard room and the deluxe room.
All the other rooms have large balconies equipped with sun loungers and seating arrangements and spectacular sea view of course.
The rooms with sea view and balcony are the superior rooms, the ultra large Penthouse Suite right on top and the fantastic two-bedroom Suite right at the bottom of the property.
The two bedrooms suite is more than a hotel room it is a full 130 square meters apartment with its own pool and large lounge.
The ideal solution for a family or two couples traveling together.
In addition, of course this is a five star property, rated by the Grading Council of South Africa so all the mod cons required in a five star hotel room are present.
Starting with Wi-Fi, Flat screen TV’s, mini bar, electronic safe, air conditioning those are all definite standards and in addition we have provided all the rooms with their own Apple Mac computer with free internet access, a Nespresso machine for a good cup of coffee and for people loving their own music i-pod docking station and CD player.
